Outdoor Adventure Vest - Live Virtual Workshop

work with quality felted wool to create an outerwear piece fit to become an heirloom piece

SOLD OUT

Workshop Summary

This is one of those special projects that you create slowly from quality materials and wear with pride, for years and years and years.  The kind of thing your loved ones will eye with longing and people on the street will stop you to ask where you got it.

Join me in making the Adventure Vest this November!

In this live, 5-part, virtual workshop, I'll take you through choosing your size, making fit adjustments before you begin, and sewing the vest with quality felted wool and adding rivets and snaps.  We'll take it slow and careful and in that process, this wool vest will become an heirloom quality piece and...if I do say so myself the perfect gift!  (It's still my Dad's favorite!)

The beauty of this workshop is that it will be intimate and live and you can jump in at anytime with questions or comments.  Just like you were at an in-person workshop, but from your own comfy home.  And there will be recordings!

The class will be held in 5 sessions for 1-2 hours each.  For a total of 9 hours of class time.  You'll also have access to our private community where you can post pictures and videos, leaves messages or comments and both get assistance and connect with other students.  I am also happy to answer email questions directly!

I want you to have sweet, sweet success.

*I will be putting together an optional kit for the class as quality materials can be hard to source.  More details on that in September.

What you will learn...

  • how to use a multi-sized commercial sewing pattern
  • how to choose your size and make fit adjustments before you begin!
    (worth it's weight in gold!)
  • how to add some shaping to a vest that's meant to be boxy if you prefer it to be more fitted.
  • how to work with felted wool and install rivets and snaps
  • how to to finish your seams and add those special touches
  • how to work with what you have...in the example shown here, I had a thin (gorgeous) wool suiting that I quilted to a vintage blanket before beginning.  We'll talk about things like that too!

Skill level

You don't need a lot of clothing sewing
experience to join the class.

This pattern is a fairly straight forward design

that won't require a lot of clothing knowledge.
And I'll help you along the way with fit and adding shaping if desired.

What it will require is a steady hand and the ability to sew neatly and carefully....and the patience to handle thick, bulky fabric.

And finishing the vest may require some

handsewing (if you choose!).

What you'll need for the workshop ...

(complete materials list to come in September)

  • internet connection and a device to join the Zoom call on
  • a sewing machine and all it's bits and pieces (don't have an owner's manual...get one, ASAP!)
  • a snap and rivet set (unless you plan to use buttons instead of snaps)
  • 5-7 heavy duty snaps or buttons
  • felted wool fabric
  • thread to match
  • sewing kit - including bobbins, fabric shears, paper scissors, seam ripper, handsewing needle

About the class

  • Classes will be live and will be as close to an in-person workshop as possible.
  • I will be teaching the classes from my home sewing studio and will provide a space to learn that is open, kind-hearted and full of more good information than you may want!  ;-)
  • Classes will be recorded and made available to watch within 24 hours.
  • I will be available for questions via email or on our private community space.  Please ask me questions (it makes me feel important!).
  • Each construction class will begin with a few minutes for fit questions, so be sure to bring your questions and wear your garment!
  • You can join the classes via computer, tablet or phone, but the larger the screen the more easily you'll see what's happening.
  • and to that end, I'll be using two cameras to ensure that you can see what's happening!
  • The registration cost includes the PDF pattern, 9 hours of class time, accesss to the recorded videos, the ability to reach out to me for one-on-one help and a private community.

Returns / Refunds

There are no refunds or returns on live virtual workshops.  In order to have an intimate, personal sewing experience and have the kind of interaction I want us to have, the number of students that can enroll in the workshop is very limited.  Once you register for the workshop your space is held for you whether you attend or not.

If you are unable to attend the live workshop, the recordings will be avilable to you as well as the community (for as long as it's live) and I always weclome email questions as you work on fit and construction.
